Follow the Yellow Brick Road and join our welcoming community, whether you’re on the NDIS, over 65, a parent, carer, or support worker. This is a safe, judgment-free space where you can be yourself.
We offer compassion, support, and a platform to share resources, advice, and practical tips.
The Yellow Brick Road initiative emphasizes our collective journey as a community and sector. We are currently developing an inclusive Facebook page aimed at welcoming everyone. We do not tolerate lateral violence or any form of bullying. This space is safe for anyone involved in or connected to the sector to express themselves freely.
We are looking for compassionate and non-judgmental mediators who are well-informed. If you are part of our physical, digital, or broader community, you belong here. Whether you are a frustrated participant, a burnt-out support worker, or a weary parent or spouse, you are welcome. This is a place of belonging, support, and compassion.
Remember, nothing about us without all of us! The disability sector presents a remarkable opportunity for unity and growth, even in the face of challenges like lateral violence. The diverse experiences of individuals with disabilities require a united effort to elevate the voices of all community members, particularly those who may feel marginalized or misinformed. It is essential for us to work together to ensure everyone has access to accurate and compassionate information, empowering them to feel included and informed.
Carers, who are vital to this ecosystem, deserve to feel supported and valued. Unfortunately, the fear of being perceived as negative can lead to isolation from peer support, but this can be improved. Sharing experiences does not portray disability as a burden; rather, it highlights the resilience and potential within this community.
While many self-identified advocates provide invaluable lived experiences, they may not always have a complete understanding of the wider disability landscape. Additionally, the rapid changes in the NDIS can be overwhelming, making it crucial for everyone involved to engage in collaboration and ongoing learning.
At this pivotal moment in the evolution of the NDIS, we see tremendous potential for bringing our community together for collective growth and understanding. Although challenges posed by a few individuals may occasionally overshadow decades of advocacy, we believe that open and effective communication can transform these dynamics into positive outcomes.
We are committed to fostering a culturally positive environment and ensuring access to trustworthy information. Misinformation can hinder progress and delay necessary reforms, which is concerning. Therefore, it is vital for everyday Australians—those living with disabilities—to have their voices heard and to connect with peers and platforms where they can share their experiences without fear of judgment.
With this vision in mind, we are excited to introduce the Yellow Brick Road—a Facebook page aimed at uniting, sharing accurate information, and creating a safe space for dialogue. Together, we can forge alliances that prioritise knowledge and understanding as the foundation of our community. By cultivating connection and clarity, we can strengthen the support network for participants, carers, support workers, families, and providers alike.
Let’s embark on this journey together toward a brighter, more inclusive future! This initiative will also create job opportunities for community residents aspiring to be peer advocates and drive change.
